Hairy is a 2 year old terrier mix that came to us after being found as a stray in the city of Cleveland completely emaciated. When we say this guy literally had no more weight he could lose, we mean it. He was down to skin and bones; weighing in at only 6lbs - roughly half of what he should weigh. We have included pictures to show his dramatic appearance at the time we took him in. We named him Hairy Potter, because he is "the dog that lived."
Thankfully, vets found nothing wrong with Hairy on his exam or with his bloodwork, so no magic was needed to get him better. It was just a matter of regular feedings to get him back to looking and feeling good again!
Despite what he's been through, Hairy has shown no signs of food aggression or resource guarding, and will sit politely when asked for food or treats. He is very cuddly and affectionate with his people, but in typical small dog fashion can be slightly aloof with strangers. He is not nippy or fearful, he just really only has eyes for those he knows and loves! He is definitely a velcro dog, and wants to be around his foster family at all times. He has gone to several outdoor events in and around downtown CLE, and has done well in crowds and meeting new people. His foster mom says all the time that he's the perfect little dog, and that if they didn't have 3 pups already that she wouldn't be able to let him go!
Hairy does have some anxiety in a crate, (he will whine and bark), so his foster family is working to help him be more comfortable in it. He does stay in it when they're not at home, but sleeps in bed with them all night without an issue. He has never been destructive in the house, so he may be okay without it after an adjustment to his forever home.
Hairy gets along well with other dogs of all sizes, and is currently being fostered with 3 other small pups. (2 Toy Foxes and an Italian Greyhound.) He absolutely LOVES to play and cuddle with them, and would do best in a forever home where he has another dog around to be his friend and companion. There are no cats in his foster home, but he has seem them and hasn't reacted, so we suspect that he would be okay sharing a home with one.
We don't ever want Hairy to end up lost or starving again, so a home with a securely fenced in yard is strongly preferred for his adoption.
Hairy is approx. 2 years old, and appears to be mix of Toy Fox Terrier, Dachshund, and maybe Chihuahua. Whatever he is, he is darn cute with those short legs and HUGE ears!!! He is a little guy, weighing in at only 10lbs. He may get a little heavier when he completely fills in, but shouldn't be more than 11-12lbs tops. He is house trained and walks well on lead. He is neutered, microhipped, up to date on vaccines, dewormed, heartworm negative, and on monthly flea/heartworm prevention.
His adoption fee is $250.
