After 6 years in her home, Phoebe, now known as PJ, is being returned to us. Her owners feel like the addition of a second child has triggered PJ's anxiety, and they would like her to find a place where she is happy and comfortable, and can get the attention and exercise she needs. We are deeply saddened by this, but if it's what's ultimately best for PJ, we have to focus on that.
PJ is a sweet girl, but is a little shy at first and will take a few minutes to fully warm up. She is EXTREMELY intelligent, and loves to show off her commands and learn new things. She would be great for someone that was interested in obedience or agility! She currently knows basic commands as well as a handful of tricks, but would love to use her poodle smarts and learn more!
PJ is wonderful with young children, but living with them 24/7 seems to have exacerbated her anxiety. She does currently take a low dose of daily Prozac, which appears to help, but we think some of her stress is secondary to the fact that she's just not getting enough attention or exercise. Because of this, her ideal home is one with older kids, with someone who is experienced owning dogs, enjoys being active, and is home most of the day. A fenced in yard is strongly preferred. She does have some separation anxiety, but hates being in her crate, and actually does much better outside of it. She is not destructive in the home at all, but has had some accidents, (which is part of the anxious behavior her owners were seeing), so if she needs to be confined baby gating her is the best option. She has learned she can easily steal food from the kids in her home, and will then run off and try and keep it. She has never bitten, but she will grab at things and doesn't always pay close attention to fingers. Her prior family never did much to address or correct this behavior, (they just took back whatever she snatched), but we do have a trainer that is happy to help her new family work with her and teach her better manners if they are interested!
PJ rides well in the car, although she does prefer to be in the passenger seat as opposed to the back seat. She loves going for walks, and does pull some on leash, but otherwise does well.
While she can be barky towards other pups while out on leash, PJ has had doggie play dates at her home and has always done very well. She used to be fine with cats, but it's been many years since she's lived with one, so we will have to cat test her if needed.
In addition to being absolutely adorable, PJ is sweet, cuddly, and interactive with her people. She loves fetch and playing with her toys! She is not hyper at all, but like most dogs enjoys playtime and being included in her family's adventures. And at the end of the day, she just wants to snuggle up with you in bed and dream of all the fun things you'll do together the following day! She is a wonderful little girl that just wants someone who will commit to being her best friend and care for her the rest of her life. She is so deserving of this; getting bounced around is so unfair and stressful for her.
PJ is 6 years old, 20 lbs, and is spayed, microchipped, up to date on vaccines, heartworm negative and on monthly flea/heartworm prevention. Her adoption fee is $175.

***PJ's original bio from 2013.****
Phoebe is a super cute, scruffy little 7 month old puppy that was found as a stray. Her owners could not be located, so we are now in the process of helping her find an amazing forever home where she will be safe and never lost again!
Phoebe is a happy, silly and very smart little girl! (And did we mention how stinking cute she is?!?) She can be a little shy when first meeting new people, but warms up quickly and is then your best friend!!! She ignores cats and loves other dogs no matter what size they are - she just wants to play and be part of the fun! She can settle in with best of them too, and enjoys a good bone or some cuddletime during a nap.
Even though she is still a puppy, Phoebe has great manners and catches on quickly to what is expected of her. She’s working on her basic commands and mastered "sit" in no time! Phoebe is housebroken but is still working on letting you know when she needs to go out. She is great in the house and isn't overly active; she will snuggle or entertain herself with toys. She does not chew and she is fairly quiet too - although she will sometimes bark while playing! She walks well on lead, loves zooming around and playing in the the yard and enjoys going for rides in the car! She's a wonderful little pup that is just a joy to foster! The family that is approved to adopt her will be very lucky indeed - she's a gem! We are absolutely in love with her!!!
Phoebe is very attentive to her people and loves being around them! Because of this, she does tend to get a little stressed when she's home alone. She will go in her crate, but she does not enjoy it and will pace and whine. As she does have some signs of mild separation anxiety, (her only flaw!), we would prefer to see her to go a home where there is someone is home a large part of the day. Our girl will just be stressed and upset if she's home alone 6-8 hours a day, and that's just not fair to her.
Phoebe is approx. 7 months old and is currently 15 lbs. She appears to be a terrier/poodle type mix, and our vet guesstimates that she'll be around 20-25 lbs. when fully grown. She is spayed, microchipped, up to date on vaccines, dewormed and on monthly flea/heartworm preventative.
Her adoption fee is $175.
