Freia is a beautiful back merle, 2 yr old Great Dane that was rescued from life in a puppy mill.
Like many adult mill dogs, Freia is a nervous, shy girl at first. She makes us so proud though, as she tries very hard to work through every situation she's in despite her anxiety. She's never fearfully aggressive, and will always move forward to investigate even when she's scared. She trusts her person, and will look to them for reassurance and guidance.
Once she's comfortable, Freia is a typical dane! Playful, silly, cuddly, and loves to lean into you and give kisses and hugs! She loves toys, but will destroy anything soft. She's basically a large puppy that is learning all the ins and outs of home life. She literally grew up in a barn, so she needs a patient, loving owner to help her continue to learn and grow into the best girl she can be. She's a true diamond in the rough, and every day we see more of her inner gem peeking through!
Freia's ideal forever home is a quiet one where she has at least one female owner, as men make her nervous. She can live with men, but must have a woman around for comfort. She wouldn't do well with young children, as their loud sounds and unpredictable movements will be too scary for her. She absolutely ADORES other dogs of all shapes and sizes, so she'll need a playful, friendly pup in her forever home to be her bestie and role model. A securely fenced in yard is required.
Freia does have bilateral hip dysplasia and was seen by the orthopedic specialist at Metropolitan. After examining her and reviewing her x-rays, he concluded that she does not need any surgical intervention at this time. She has full range of motion, is pain free, and can run and play like a deer, so it was his opinion that doing surgery was unnecessary, as the risks didn't currently outweigh the benefits. This doesn't mean that she may not have issues in the future, but we can't predict that and neither can the orthopedist. Hey, who can?! She currently takes 2 inexpensive, over the counter meds for her joint health, which she will stay on for life.
Freia is crate and house trained, and is spayed, has had her stomach tacked, is microchipped, dewormed, fully vaccinated, heartworm negative, and current on monthly flea/tick/heartworm prevention. She's a petite girl at 85 lbs, and ideally should never get more than 90 lbs or so. She's dry mouthed and not drooly at all.
Her adoption fee is $450.
