DAHLIA IS CURRENTLY IN TRAINING TO HELP BUILD UP HER CONFIDENCE, AND IS TEMPORARILY UNAVAILABLE FOR ADOPTION.
Dahlia is a 10 year old Pit bull terrier mix that was rescued in March 2010 from a terrible hoarding situation in Trumbull County. There were 100+ dogs on the property, all living outdoors in appalling conditions where they received little to no food, water, shelter, human attention or medical care. You can read the details here.
Poor Dahlia, she suffered terribly at the hands of the hoarder... After her rescue, she had to have 18 teeth extracted because they were so badly broken from desperately chewing the bars of the cage she was forced to live in. She also had to undergo surgery to repair a torn ligament in her knee, a painful condition that was never addressed by the hoarder. Her right ear flap is also damaged and scarred down due to an old injury. As if that weren't enough, because she wasn't spayed when she was younger, she also developed some mammary masses (which were tested and are benign). Thankfully, because they aren't cancerous, our vet doesn't feel that she needs to go through another surgery to remove them. It's terrible what some people can do or allow to happen to "man's best friend."
In classic bully breed fashion though, Dahlia is a tough girl that has bounced right back from the horrors she endured in her previous life. You would never know she ever lived in such terrible conditions, or that she ever had any medical problems!!! =) She has blossomed into a loving, humorous, bouncy, well-rounded girl who enjoys nothing more than spending time with her people!
Dahlia is a sweet, gentle girl, and would love to find a forever home where she will not only be cared for, but loved and cherished for the rest of her life. She truly deserves it!
Dahlia is spayed, microchipped, dewormed, up to date on vaccinations, heartworm negative, and on monthly flea/heartworm prevention. She is good with other dogs (she is best with other mellow dogs like herself) and cats, is crate-trained, housebroken, and absolutely LOVES to go for walks and take rides in the car! She also knows basic commands, of which her favorite is giving you her paw! She's too cute! =) We just love her!!!
