This beautiful girl is Brooklyn, a 2 year old American Bulldog/Boxer mix that was found wandering the streets of Old Brooklyn by one of the assistants at our vet clinic. The assistant didn’t have the heart to leave her to fend for herself, so she opened the door to her truck, and Brooklyn eagerly jumped in!
Brooklyn was in bad shape when she first arrived in rescue. She was in poor body condition, covered in fleas and ticks, and obviously just getting over a recent pregnancy. Routine blood tests also confirmed that she was heartworm positive. It was clear to the doctors that Brooklyn had never received any basic or routine medical care in her past, and her clinical signs, diminished body weight and poor hair coat suggested that she had been battling heartworm disease for some time. Her sweet personality endured however; a true testament to the resilient, loyal and forgiving nature of the bullie breeds!
Despite the debilitating nature of her disease, Brooklyn is a tough girl, and she did wonderfully throughout the 2 month heartworm treatment. She is now a gorgeous, healthy dog who is just loving life! She has been an absolute joy to foster, and is one of those dogs that seems to understand that she has been given a second chance, and is truly grateful for it. She is one of the sweetest, kindest and happiest dogs that I’ve ever had the privilege to foster, and she is SO deserving of a wonderful and loving forever home!
Brooklyn gets along well with dogs of all sizes, (she’s played with dogs ranging from a 7lb. Chihuahua, to a 100lb. Great Dane!), but she’s a little to interested in cats, so a home without felines would be ideal for her. We would also prefer a fenced in yard because she is a squirrel chaser, and she has been known to break a cable tie-out in her efforts to catch one! She walks well on a leash, and is housetrained, crate trained, spayed, micro chipped, UTD on her vaccinations, on monthly flea and heartworm preventative, and, we are very happy to say, she is heartworm negative!
Brooklyn’s adoption fee is $200. Please ensure that bullie breeds are not prohibited in your city prior to submitting your application. All applicants will be thoroughly screened, and a home visit may be required. We will be picky, so please, serious inquires ONLY!
